Im September 2014 stand die thüringische Kleinstadt Schmalkalden für eine Woche ganz im Zeichen von Graffiti und Urban Art. Das Kunst-Festival WALLCOME zeigte in seiner Hauptwoche mit Filmen, Vorträgen, Ausstellungen, Workshops und Live-Malerei die vielen Facetten, die Graffiti und Urban Art mit sich bringen. Nun, knapp ein Jahr später, blicken die Veranstalter und Organisatoren von WALLCOME – zu denen die Szenegrößen AKUT und CASE gehören – noch einmal auf das Geschaffene zurück. In einer Videodokumentation sind die Murals aller beteiligten Künstler, die im Rahmen des Festivals geschaffen wurden und deren Entstehung in Szene gesetzt.
Für Freunde der Haptik gibt es außerdem noch eine gedruckte Dokumentation. Neben Bildern der Werke und Informationen zu den beteiligten Künstlern sind darin auf knapp 60 Seiten zahlreiche weiterführende Beiträge von und über Graffiti zusammengefasst. Das Buch kann gegen eine Bearbeitungsgebühr direkt bei den Organisatoren (E-Mail an: kontakt@wallcome.de) bestellt werden.
Das Urban Art Festival WALLCOME hat eindrucksvoll gezeigt, dass Street Art nicht nur in den großen urbanen Gebieten funktioniert. Mit Hilfe der lokalen Behörden, Ämter und Unternehmen kann diese einzigartige Kunstform auch im ruralen Raum einen Platz finden.

In September 2014 the Thuringian small town of Schmalkalden was ruled by urban art and graffiti. During its main event week, the urban art festival WALLCOME offered films, presentations, exhibitions and live-painting, introducing the many facets of graffiti and urban art. Now, only a year later, WALLCOME’s operators and organisers, including well-known urban artists like AKUT and CASE, look back on their work. A documentary film captures all of the murals that the involved artists created for the festival.
Bibliophiles will be pleased about the printed documentation also available. The booklet’s 60 pages entail not only pictures and articles on all of the participating artists and their works, but also many in-depth essays about graffiti.
